Where once there was Mint – former Michelin-star pupil – now there is the self-styled American dining experience of chef Temple Garner (previously of Town Bar & Grill). Front-of-house duties are taken care of by his partner John Farrell, who’s also responsible for the exceptional service in Il Primo on Montague Street. Seated amidst a large ten-top table, I ticked the boxes on most of the lunch menu. For starters (€6-€9.50), the calamari were spot on; the pork-belly salad with chilli was on the right side of spicy; while the devilled eggs with Parma ham and asparagus were terrific. After that, our group tucked into rather an odd selection of mains (€8-€15): half-pound burger and chips, chargrilled steak sandwich, crab linguini with sweet red pepper, croque monsieur with ham and macaroni, and a curious nachos grande. Almost uniformly hearty meals were had by all, bar the nachos, which were too unrefined even for our gregarious gang.
