Max McGuinness on Bertie's sparkling hypocrisy
Irony of ironies. Bertie has been moaning about the quality of parliamentary reporting. In a speech to the Irish Parliamentary Society on Monday night, reported here, he criticised the media for devoting less time and resources to "serious parliamentary reporting".
This is the same boyo who last week successfully challenged the Mahon Tribunal's right to question him about statements made in the Dáil regarding his dodgy finances.
So Bertie would like us to know more about what is said in the Dáil...as long as we ignore the juicy bits about cash-filled valises moving mysteriously around Drumcondra. Maybe he thinks that is "unserious parliamentary reporting".
Bertie noted that "it is particularly hard for us to compete for attention with the glitter of celebrity". Yet Bertie's own statements to the Dáil were all over the front pages last week. Seems like Bertie is competing just fine. But soon he'll take his glitter away...and stash it in a sock in the hot press, I suppose.
