The doors open on Ireland's first Apple Store in Belfast, high fives are exchanged and hipster geeks flop through the glass door in a deluge of black-framed glasses, latte bellies and appalling tattoos.
"We have wives and girlfriends who aren't very happy," says one excited customer. Who aren't very real either, one imagines.
Is it not time to stop worshipping Apple as if they were some kind of benevolent and hip uncle who makes us great gifts? They are a big fat polluting, faceless corporation like any of the rest of them. Let's hear some stories about how inevitably crap their products are, how they often go very wrong, and how we've been the suckers in Apple's well-played game of built-in-obsolesence for far too long. They've been drip-feeding us ridiculously expensive technology for years and we continue to try to 'keep up' by spending 500 quid or more a year on the latest 'improvement' on their last product... Think what 500 quid could do for a poor person? Or an ugly part of the city? www.guerrillagardening.org
