Isn't it bizarre that Stephen Fry, Britain's favourite avuncular sophist, has become the poster boy for something as phenomenally inane as Twitter? It's like Jade Goody hosting Mastermind.

Twittering is a sad substitute for a good chat over a jar at a charming local pub where one could develop some skill at telling a amusing story. Most of the young today are as dull as mud. They are not cool.
