... and Emmet Scanlon blue steels the show
One of the most remarkable things about the internet is just how quickly information can get to us. Before American televisions shows are even broadcast over on this side of the Atlantic, we can have watched the entire series, blogged about them and moved onto the next one (eg Breaking Bad, The Wire etc).
And even more amazingly is that we can be aware of TV shows before they're even produced. One such example is The Guards, an Irish-based drama set to feature on TV3 (apparently), which if this clip below is anything to go by, looks like it should be left sitting stillborn in the creative womb.
Luckily, it seems that it's only at the pre-production stage... that is unless it will actually be delivered as a series of still zoom outs of suicide bombers. A sort of jihad Dear Deidre if you will.
Most tantalisingly of all the show threatens to feature the acting talents of young Emmet Scanlon of Hollywood Trials, a sort of Aldi version of Colin Farrell, who should hopefully give some time to his world famous collection of facial expressions.
Oh Lord. I don't have sound on my computer at work (a blessing in this case, I imagine), but this looks am-haaazingly bad.
I honestly thought Fair City was as low as Irish tv could go. Huh.
And it might be outdated legislation, and I will stand corrected, but aren't members of the Guards meant to be clean-shaven? I don't thing designer goatees would wash, even if they are framing some spectacular pouts...
HBO gives the world The Wire, we give The Guards... Oy.

Might these be many, angled shots of that same pouty face, or a life-sized plastic doll produced for publicity? If not, this lad has ONE look; much be quite the actor. (The hair do is a bit off-Guard too.)

I worked FAIR CITY as an extra for eight years and the place is diva central. One of the actresses takes it upon herself to try to advise the extras how to dress.Any extra who looks better than her is immediately told to tone it down. She did this for a long time. She actually tried to do it to me and i asked the boss of the agency that sent me there if this was normal and it turned out to be the first she had heard of it.The actress in question was a complete bully and is now gone from the series.
