Killruddery Film Festival: forgotten films in super surroundings
We're breaking Dublin's borders next month (March 11th-14th) and heading to the Killruddery Film Festival in this historical house near Bray. Following on from last year's Silent Film Festival, this year's programme features even more "lost, overlooked and forgotten cinema."
Other movies to look forward to: Bob Quinn's Budawanny from 1987; Terence Malick's 2005 film, The New World; a documentary called Chang, shot around the Thai border in 1927 by the team who would later make King Kong; and comedy The Patsy by King Vidor, with live music by Josh Johnston.
Filmmakers John Boorman, Bob Quinn and Rebecca Miller, and New York Times critic Matt Zoller Seitz will be there to introduce films or speak about their work. And Historian Kevin Brownlow will deliver an illustrated lecture called 'Unknown Chaplin', based on his own research.
You'll find full listings at www.killrudderyfilmfestival.com. Tickets can be booked through the festival's partner, the Mermaid Arts Centre online or by phone: 272 4030. Prices run from a fiver to €16 for individual films.
